Model steam engines at Carlisle Toy Fair

Did I forget to mention steam engines? Whether you’re looking for something you used to have or something that you always wanted, there’re all manner of fun toys and models and Carlisle’s Toy Fair!

If you enjoy models, toys, figures, games, Sci-fi, TV and film memorabilia and other fun collectibles then you might seriously enjoy Carlisle’s Toy Fair. The Spring date is March 25th and there’ll be a lot of traders with interesting tables full of well-loved treasures from toy boxes past, collectors cabinets and attics!

There’s a slightly different offering every time but certain things you can count on seeing, lovely models from such great manufacturers as Corgi, Matchbox, Dinky and Triang. Trains from Hornby, planes, cars, tanks and ships from Airfix. Figures from Britains and Palitoy.  All sorts of great stuff to collect or play with! Usually there are also cabinets and cases to put your expanding collection in, as well.

Note that as well as shopping for your stuff you can also bring along your own things to swap or part exchange with the traders, so you might want to have a look in your attic and dust off your own models, doll’s houses, farm sets, ponies etc.

Yes, there’s plenty of interest for lasses too!

There'll even be two display cabinet traders at this Carlisle Toy Fair, so you can organise and showcase your treasures!

There are interesting displays every time. At the March ’14 toy fair we saw Meccano robotic magicians and an enormous crane courtesy of the North East Meccano Society. Please don’t be shy to ask questions about the things you like because there are mavens here from northern Britain who are happy to impart their considerable knowledge to fellow model and toy-lovers regardless of your own passion, whether it be railways, military vehicles, diggers, tractors, rockets, board games or soft-toys.

Consider visiting Carlisle Toy Fair this year. It could be a very nice day out whether you are an avid toy collector, want to indulge your nostalgia for beloved toys and models that you used to have, or if you’re just looking for something a bit special for someone’s stocking this Christmas.

Or perhaps you have something taking up space and gathering dust in your attic that you’d like to swap or sell? You could also make a useful sum of cash from the contents of your old toy box, especially if you were the kind of child who didn’t put too many dents in your Dinky vehicles or your Hornby locomotives, or give your Action man a Viking funeral.  The chances are reasonably good that someone would be very happy to play with or simply treasure your old toys.

The Carlisle Toy Fair is one of the biggest events in the Northwest for buying, swapping and selling toys. It’s held twice a year in the historic city of Carlisle, bringing together stall holders and toy / model collectors from the North of England, Scotland and the Borders. The railways have always been important to Carlisle and there are always a nice selection of model trains and accessories at the toy fair. Enthusiasts can also explore a range of high quality, collectable vintage and current models, figures and diorama backgrounds in the H&H Borderway Exhibition Hall at Rosehill, Carlisle.  Find the Hall just off the M6 junction 43, set your Sat Nav to Borderway Centre, CA1 2RS. The fair opens to all at 10.30 am, stall holders can set up from 07.30.

For more details plus information for stall holders, please see the Carlisle Toy Fair website.
