Our Horatio on the bridge. In Praise of PC Barker.

PC Bill Barker’s 25 years of dedicated service to the Cumbria Constabulary culminated in the ultimate noble sacrifice – he gave his life protecting the public. He was busy steering people away from the perilously damaged Workington road bridge when it collapsed at 4:40 am on November 20, 2009, carrying him off in the unprecedented flooding.

Bill was our Horatio on the bridge, he gave his life to save others from that fate. Brave, brave man.
